Commonalities:
All websites have the above questionable information about their founders and companies interchanged throughout their sites. Goxtrade, a site claiming to be founded by Neil and almost a replica of their other exchange sites had staff listed that's details later proved to be falsified.
TechCrunch has confirmed the other photos on the site belong to other people seemingly chosen at random — including a claims specialist in Illinois, a lawyer in Germany and an operations manager in Melbourne.
In addition, TechCrunch found that Cloudflare, the hosting service for Goxtrade had flagged their site as a phishing site, an outcome that several of "Goxtrade"'s other sites later faced.

Recent report says that nobody uses Bitcoin for payments. Is that really true?

Recently, we stumbled upon a report about the use of Bitcoin (you can read more about the study here) which made a few headlines in the media stating that ‘almost nobody uses it’.
It suggests that only 1.3% of all bitcoin transactions account for payments made to merchants. But if you start crunching the numbers, they don’t seem to add up. We at CoinGate also compared the numbers with our data to show you why we doubt the accuracy of this report.
According to data retrieved from Blockchain.com, there were 290,287 bitcoin transactions per day on average in the last 12 months. It means that this 1.3% would account for 3,774 transactions per day that were made for paying for goods and services.
CoinGate processes more than 1,000 of such Bitcoin transactions per day on average. Now, if we’d assume that the report presents accurate data, that would mean that 26.5% of all merchant related transactions go through us, which would be way off the track.
What about BitPay, or CoinPayments? For example, at the beginning of the year, BitPay stated that they had processed more than $1 billion worth of transactions last year with an average cart size of $678.77. This means that in a year, they processed around 1,473,250 transactions or 4,036 transactions per day. Even this number is already more than 1.3% that is presented in the report.
And we are not even mentioning all those stores that accept Bitcoin directly to their wallets, or via open-source software like BTCPay.
It’s not that we want to throw shade on the company that published this report. We’re just concerned that it spreads a false message that cryptocurrencies are all about speculation.

Crypto Payment Gateways rating by Cryptwerk

Crypto Payment Gateways rating by Cryptwerk
We prepared new analytics for the crypto community. The rating of crypto payment gateways upon the statistics of our merchants database. (link is here https://cryptwerk.com/analytics/ )

  2. BitPay

  4. globee
  5. CoinGate
  6. GoCoin
  7. Coinify
  8. BTCpay
  9. BitcoinPay
  10. Shapeshift
and others

Of course this is not the whole market analytics, this chart is based on those data that we got from our merchants (1700+ at the moment). But it shows the real picture in crypto payment gateways competition.

For sure during the enlarging our database this chart will change, but I think the leaders will be same.

I hope this information will be interesting for the community and especially for the merchants who are going to start accepting cryptocurrencies.

A comparison of 7 Bitcoin Payment Processors and their bitcoin conversion rate

I use Bitcoin to pay for a lot of things, and I often noticed that it seems that some Bitcoin payment processors calculate the amount of bitcoins required to pay by a different rate than my Bitcoin wallet. For example, if paying for something which costs 100 EUR, when I scan the QR code with my smartphone, my Bitcoin wallet shows the amount in euros as 102 EUR. I have decided to test if this is just a fluke, or is this a deliberate behavior by some Bitcoin payment processors (aka a hidden fee).
To test it, I have generated invoices on 7 different Bitcoin payment gateways for 100 EUR and 100 USD twice a day for 2 weeks, compared it to the bitcoin conversion rate on bitcoinaverage.com, and compiled the results. I have missed several measurements when I was unable to make them on time, but in the end I made a total of 30 measurements of invoices from each Bitcoin payment processor.
Bitcoin payment processors I tested:
https://bitcoinpay.com
https://bitpay.com
https://coinbase.com
https://coingate.com
https://coinify.com
https://coinsbank.com
https://paymium.com (only EUR measured)

Please let me know if this information is interesting to you and if there is anything I could have done better. I might do the same type of research again in the future, with feedback from the community.
What is your opinion about this? Are we often paying more than we should because Bitcoin payment gateways add fees that the customers are not informed of? Or do you think this is how things should be and such practices are acceptable?
