The GoldAndBlack Discord Guide

Hello! This is a post that I'm making so we can link it in the sidebar, that way we can have a quick guide for people checking out the discord server.

What's a discord server?

It's kinda like IRC with voice chat. You can connect to different channels and talk to people with text, images, and voice.

Is Discord open source? Is it secure? Does it run on Linux? Is it powered by decentralized blockchains of TOR nodes routed through BitTorrent P2P OpenBazaar Bitcoins?

-No it is not open source, nor is it in any way decentralized, therefore just assume that it isn't secure. There is a linux client available which works pretty good, and there is also a web-based Discord client. Treat it like a public forum, just like you would Reddit.
Let's say you want to hang out with friends, and you are going to be riding in their car. Do you take a mirror to check for vbieds under the frame? Do you ask them to leave their iPhone at home? Chances are the answer is no, but if the answer is yes, then maybe you shouldn't be on Reddit, let alone discord. :P

How do I join?

I joined a voice chat, and all I hear is "Papa Don't Preach" by Madonna! What the hell?

We have 2 DJ bots on the server, one is named DJ Somalian Roadblock and the other is DJ Fraga. The volume of the bots can be set independently by right-clicking and dragging the volume slider. Most people seem to keep the volume between 5 and 15 percent, so we can still talk to each other without the music getting in the way, and also so it fades into the background in case we're doing other things.
Essential commands for DJ Somalian Roadblock:
/play (YouTube URL/search term) -- plays a song /skip -- skips the current track /queue -- looks at current queue
Essential commands for DJ Fraga:
!play (YouTube URL/search term) -- plays a song !next -- skips the current track !playlist -- looks at the current queue
You can use /help or !help if you want a full list of commands for either of the bots. DJ Kogos can do some things besides music (try !snek, for instance)

What are the rules for the GnB discord?

Pretty much the same rules as the subreddit apply there, with some notes...
Since people are involved in conversations on the discord server, sometimes the moderation is more lenient... assuming you are funny or are providing decent levels of entertainment. Off-topic discussions are totally allowed, but if you come in and immediately say, "Hey, if black people survive on welfare, and welfare is funded by taxes, and taxes are theft, does that mean I get to throw them out of helicopters?" you'll likely get banned. New users don't get any leniency at all.
Don't post pornographic images or videos on the discord. You'll be banned. The definition of pornographic materials is, "I knows it when I sees it".
Don't be an asshole. If everyone on the discord hates you, you might be kicked just to maintain a happy and non-toxic atmosphere.

Why are there 20 Brazilians in voice chat but only 6 English-speakers?

There are lots of Brazilian ancaps, possibly more than there are American ancaps. We all hang out in the same discord, and also have a bit of a language exchange going. Most of the Brazilians speak at least a little bit of English, and they have very interesting memes.

What channels are for what?

Voice Channels
-Voice 1 is a channel that requires push-to-talk.
-Voice 2 is a channel that allows people to talk without having to use push-to-talk. This means this channel is sometimes very annoying. Most people hang out in Voice 1
Text Channels
#rules-regras is for the list of rules in all the languages.
#goldandblack-latest-posts is a room that is automatically updated with the latest posts from /GoldAndBlack (this subreddit).
#internationalclusterfuck, #americano, and #braziliano are text-chat channels for their respective voice channels. Use this if you want to post a link you want the other people to see or something. Please try not to post DJ requests in here, some people who don't use voice chat find that obnoxious.
#djmemes is for DJ request commands and posting dank memes.

cryptoclub is for people who have proven that they have access to the private key associated with the public keys listed in the #publickeys channel

What is the average age?

The older people on the discord are in their 30s. The average is mid-20s.

When is the server busy?

It's usually busiest in the evenings, EST.

Who do I contact with problems?

You can contact me, I'm the main administrator. The other moderators of this subreddit generally don't go on the discord, so if you contact them they won't have any idea what you're talking about. You can also message anyone who is listed as "Moderator" on the sidebar of the discord.

This is really cool! Can I invite all my friends?

This depends on whether or not your friends are cool. Chances are, if they have a nazi-MLP avatar and are called "[email protected]" we don't want them on. Otherwise, they're probably fine. Use your judgement.

Idea: Community shop to sell local organic products for bitcoin

To spread bitcoin adoption as well as healthy local produce I propose a franchise small bitcoin business that goes some way to address these problems.
People can open up a room of their house to serve as a community 'honesty' shop. Having staff available would be preferable but not necessary. The shop owner could then ask neighbors and local people if they have any products they enjoy to make such as jams, homegrown vegetables, knitwear, artwork, homemade sweets etc. and then offer to stock them in your shop.
The products could be priced however the 'manufacturer' chooses with a QR code either to a personal bitcoin wallet or to a bitpay/coinbase account to receive payment in fiat. Hopefully over time the ability to spend bitcoin in the local community will encourage many to keep hold of the bitcoin and treat selling their products as a hobby and community participation. Bitcoin would also allow for multisig 2 of 2 accounts between the shop owner and manufacturer, where the owner could take a preagreed percentage of the sale before the remainder being forwarded to the manufacturer.
A bitcoin ATM with low fees and possibly run at-cost for the community by the community would be great.
I think this idea would demonstrate how bitcoin brings power back to the many in all that it enables. Cash would require physical security and staff on site to prevent theft. Cash is easily miscounted and often coins go missing in-transit and requires trust. With bitcoin the manufacturers can be safe in the knowledge that they will either receive their product back from the shop if it doesn't sell, or they will receive bitcoin payment to their address visible on the blockchain. If any other scenario occurs then it is obvious that the shop owner has broken the agreement and sold products for bitcoin sent to an unverified address or their product has been stolen and evidence of some kind will be available.
The shop owner can quickly see what sells best and adapt to community needs.
A system like this could integrate Open Bazaar and create a very localized economy where products could be delivered in hours or could be collected from source a short walk away.
And if this idea doesn't work - what has been lost? Assuming business licences for homes are easy/non existent then there are no upfront costs other than perhaps a few £100 for a bitcoin ATM and advertising
What do you guys think?
The escrow-courier business suggested by leakypat could also aid a local bitcoin community. Once Open Bazaar is out of development I think several moderately sized cities should be concentrated on to become the first large scale bitcoin communities. With community effort concentrated in a few key areas and demonstrating that developing small scale local bitcoin courier businesses, p2p local shopping with open bazaar, bitcoin taxis etc. I believe that worldwide bitcoin adoption will accelerate. Providing shining examples of how things can work relieves the masses of the burden of imagination
